So, what are you growing this year? I'm so excited to have my own yard and be able to grow all the food I want. I still need to get some rainbarrels for the spring so I can cut down on water consumption, but otherwise I did a lot of prep in the fall, so the garden will be ready for sowing in the spring. I just ordered my seeds, here's what we're attempting to grow this year:
LEMON CUCUMBER
BRIGHT LIGHTS CHARD
LONG GREEN IMPROVED CUKE
ARUGULA
BEEFMASTER TOMATO
GOLDEN SELF BLANCHING CAULIFLOWER
COSMIC PURPLE CARROTS
GRAFFITI CAULIFLOWER
PINETREE BROCCOLI MIX
BARLETTA WHITE PICKLING ONIONS
RED CLOUD BEET
JADE CROSS BRUSSEL SPROUTS
PURPLE TRIONFO VIOLETTO BEAN
CYLINDRA BEET
COW HORN OKRA
WHITE GOLD ROMANESCO BROCCOLI
MARY WASHINGTON ASPARAGUS
BURPEES STRINGLESS BEAN
SUN SUGAR TOMATO
RUEGEN STRAWBERRY
AMBASSADOR SQUASH
FRENCH BREAKFAST RADISH
WINTER LETTUCE MIX
PINETREE LETTUCE MIX
TEMPTATION STRAWBERRY
OREGANO VULGARE
WINTER SAVORY
DWARF BLUE CURLED KALE
PINETREE BASIL MIX
EVERGREEN BUNCHING HESHIKO (SPRING ONIONS)
BLACK BEAUTY EGGPLANT
BLACK HUNGARIAN PEPPER
KALEIDOSCOPE MIX PEPPER
SUPER SUGAR SNAP PEA
I'm hoping the $50 I spent on seeds will save me that during the summer/fall months when I spent at least $15 a week at the farmers market on produce.
I'm doing a lot of thinking about chickens right now, maybe I'll get to the library this afternoon to check out some books on the subject. We're still a couple months away from chicks being available, I think.

You are going to be starting a lot of seeds. I am impressed. I am not so brave as you.
I know, I need to get to the store to buy some seed trays and a light and starting soil soon.
I'm just hoping everything will grow okay here: different climate and soil than I'm experienced with! But I'm also very excited. There is nothing as tasty as dinner from your garden.
Giid luck with the garden. You will save a TON by not having to go to the Farmers Market. Plus you'll be able to can/freeze some for the winter months.
I have a VERY brown thumb, so good luck with that - sounds fantastic though!
We used to get chicks in late April/early May. There's a great place in Hazleton (which is about 90 min. North of you) that has chicks. Don't know the name, but I'm sure it's in the book.
