Okay, this picture so does not do justice to how freaking long our driveway is! It's probably at least 80 feet long! In the summer, it's a blessing to have such a long driveway and big patio for riding bikes and sidewalk chalk and eventually basketball... but when you return in the dead of winter after being gone for four weeks, to a driveway covered in 12 inches of snow on top of 2 inches of ice... UGH. It took us pretty much 3 days to shovel enough of a path to get be able to pull the car out to the end of the driveway, where we intend to leave it for the rest of winter. I got up early to shovel the last 20 or so feet before Ali left this morning, then I go into the garage to start the car up to pull it down the driveway while he's home so I don't have to worry about the kids... and guess what!?! The engine is dead. Cold weather and not being started for 4 weeks will do that. Our drive is so icy, and inclined, that I don't think anyone could get up to give us a jump. We do have roadside assistance, but I haven't called them yet. We may have to push the car down the drive to get it to where we can jump it, and frankly I'm inclined to just leave it! I don't like to drive in the snow and ice anyway. So today the kids and I walked to the grocery store. It went well except there are enough sidewalks not shoveled or not shoveled enough for a double stroller that it was a challenge. I kept telling myself that I lived in Seattle for 4 years when I didn't have a car, or had one that I only drove on weekends to see my parents. I CAN do this. It's harder with kids though. I'm going to have to go to the consignment store and look for an umbrella stroller, for riding the bus.

I wondered how the car would start after that long of an absence in the cold!! You can actually purchase car starters, which might come in really handy in your weather. You charge them via electricity and then use the cables to charge your engine. It seems like I bought one of those for one of you kids for your birthday some years ago, but I cannot remember which one of you it was. Check with an auto parts store or some place like a K-Mart.
there must be something wrong with our battery, we had it jumped yesterday and then needed another jump this morning. Unfortunately none of the repair shops were open when I was out this morning. Bah. May have to have it jumped again tomorrow just to get it in to have the battery checked, and probably replaced!
