We took a walk over to the boat launch (Sturgis Ferry) on the Iowa River. The Iowa River is very much different than the Snoqualmie River! The Snoqualmie is very rocky, fast, and pretty clear (except during high water), but the Iowa, at least here in Iowa City, everywhere that I have glanced into it, is pretty murky, and quite silty. The riverbank was muddy, which was to the pleasure of the children, and a bit fishy smelling. It has the look of a slow moving river, but I know that the surface can be deceptive. Interestingly, I haven't seen anyone rafting or tubing on the river. I don't know if that isn't done here, or if people just go somewhere else, on some tributary or something, to do it.
I love this picture. I have so many pictures of Leila around this age playing on the Snoqualmie, I'm glad to have this of Elyas. There is something timeless about a child throwing rocks (or in this case, mud) into a river.

Yah the smell isn't pleasant, but we're so far away from the ocean here, that the rivers don't get much movement. We tube on the rivers and my mother skis. It's great for that!
Oh mai gosh how cute!
