It's funny why we sometimes like the photos we do. This photo is rather uninteresting, strictly photographically speaking, but it signifies a lot to me. For the longest time, pretty much his whole life, Elyas has been a Mama's Boy to the exclusion of spending time with anyone else, including his father! When Elyas was an infant, he would scream and cry when anyone else held him, and it didn't really change as he grew. Just before we went to Hawaii this winter, Elyas was starting to show interest in hanging out with his dad (as in, if he got up with Ali he didn't scream and cry the whole time I was sleeping in. Yes, this was still happening when he was two, almost three!! Serious case of Mama's Boy!). Since Jude was born, Elyas has started going up to give Ali hugs and loves and snuggles. Now, I'll be honest, this makes me a little sad, not because I want E to love only me, but because I worry about him feeling displaced and replaced by his little brother. I'm sure overall it's really best that he likes hanging with his dad, but I do worry about sibling rivalry. And of course my mom will say that this attitude towards my special little guy is what made him a mom's boy in the first place. ;)

It could also be that as he watches Leila interact with Ali that he is beginning to see the ways in which he and Ali will relate well. Some kids just like to spend some time to take it all in before they move into a new territory. I love this picture because it reveals the introspective nature in both of them...such a sweet experience in life to take a moment to ponder raindrops, clouds, bugs, blades of grass. I see the introspective in Amir, which is such a contrast from his mom and his sister (though she has more of that ability than her mom). I love getting to share those moments with him and I so wish I was closer so that I could play that way with your kids, too! Somehow, I have got to get a visit in!
