The chicks look hilarious when they are sleeping, they just plop their heads down and zonk out. The first few times I saw them like this, I had to make sure they were still breathing! But no, they aren't dead, just babies. :) Unfortunately two, possibly more, of them have developed diarrhea. I'm worried that it could be the start of cocci, which can claim a chick's life pretty quickly, but it could also be stress, being too hot, being too cold, not dealing with the feed well (which is medicated for the cocci, but it's an antibiotic, so it could cause diarrhea). I've moved them to a larger brooder, a bigger box, really, and they seem much, much happier. So we'll see if it gets any better! I hope it does... death of a chick is not a lesson I'm hoping to teach my budding urban-homesteaders at this point.
