Today was the worst day for elyas ever. I knew it was probably going to be a poop day because he last went only a little two inch turd on saturday, and before that it was wednesday when he pooped. So this morning, sure enough, he was walking around saying poo-poo, and I took him to the toilet and he tried and tried and screamed and pushed and grunted. Either he'd get out like 1/2 inch of poo, or I could see the poo becuase the sphincter was open, but it wasn't coming out. This went on all day, off and on, and he's just been miserable. Crying, only wanting to be snuggled tummy to tummy. I tried to give him a glycerin suppository, but he just kept pushing it out. Tried to give him prune juice with a big dose of brown sugar added (he doesn't really care for it). And he's pretty much eaten only pineapple for the last 3 days, I've taken him off glutens and I've been strictly limiting his grain intake starting Sunday. So this afternoon, after taking him out and running him around and having no more luck pooping I gave him a homeopathic laxative. I'd given them to him before, like a month ago, but they didn't work all that well, though later I found one on the carpet, spit out, so that may be why. Well, right after I gave him a dose (he was already trying to get out a poop), he actually passed a good amount of poo, like 8 inches worth, and the end was soft. I thought "hooray! He's had a good movement for the day! No more poo until Saturday, most likely." This was about 45 minutes before dinner. Well, 2 hours later, when I was getting him ready for bed, and he was running around naked as per usual, he did his "i need to poop" cry, and then WHAMMY he pooped all over the floor, all over me, who picked him up, and then a bit more in the toilet. So I hosed him off while Ali cleaned up the poop on the floor before Leila got it everywhere. Then I got him jammied up and went in to clean off my slippers and the bathroom floor, and while I was doing that, he did his poop cry again (egads!), and filled his diaper (first in probably 6 months), seeped out the legs, and filled the inside of his jammies too. Gross, but I'm so glad. That last poo contained bits of orange, which is what I fed him at lunch for the first time in several weeks, so I *think* he cleared a blockage. I hope we've turned a corner, but in any case, I'm sure he feels so much better, having passed so much poo... he won't be playing catch up, so hopefully there won't be such hard stool holding everything back.
Seriously, that was the softest poo he's had since starting solids. He's been constipated since before Christmas. I hate to give such a little body laxatives, but I think it was necessary. I have NEVER seen so much poo.
