We've been here four days today and so far, everything is going wonderfully. We've looked at 14 houses with our real estate agent, and one FSBO. There are two we liked that we saw with the agent, but the FSBO was/is everything we've wanted in a house: proximity to Ali's work, buses, downtown, co-ops, the public library. And it a beautiful old house built in 1900 with lots of space, a gas stove (we only saw 1 other in all the houses we looked at, I guess they are rare here), big fenced yard with beautiful gardens. It's just wonderful. So wonderful, we had to bid UP in this market because someone else wanted it. Tomorrow we are going to deliver an offer, hopefully it will be accepted and everything will be smooth sailing here on out.
And you folks back home in Seattle, don't faint, our offer on this 2000+ sq ft house on a huge lot is 165K!

Yay! Moving into a bigger space is going to make the transition SO much easier for you! And it sounds like Iowa city has some of the comforts you are used to! Yay again!
Hopefully Leila will love playing in the snow in her own yard this winter. :)
