I was born and raised here in the Greater Seattle Area, not a common thing, it's actually something of a rarity to meet other Northwest natives. I don't know why, it's so beautiful and
progressive here. I'm going to be sad when we move from this state, I hope to stay on this coast (like Oregon or Northern California), but who knows where Ali will be offered a job. I do admit I am fearful of moving to a Red state. Scary! ;-) Really though, Seattle, and the Northwest in general, is so lush and beautiful - it's wonderful living a couple hours from the ocean, less than an hour from the mountains: we have old growth forests, dormant volcanoes, glacier carved islands and waterways, subduction mountains... it's just beautiful beyond words here.
So we took the kids to a concert at the zoo last week (Pink Martini, one of our favorites!), and another reason I love this city stood out at me.

If you can't read it, it's the collection bins for garbage, recycling, and COMPOST! How awesome is that! It galls me that so many US cities don't have recycling programs, and yet here, in Seattle, we also have compost collection. We've had recycling collection for a long time - maybe 15 -20 years, I'm not sure (as we as a family always recycled even before there was a program). Anyway, I just love that Seattle is so
green, not just in our abundance of foliage, but in our ecological practices as well. It will be hard to move to a place that is not so keen on these things.
