December was a big month for Elyas! First, in the middle of the month he got his third toothie! The upper right front tooth. It's mate, and the one directly to the right of it are about to burst through anyday. He's so cute with that one little tooth on the top though (and his two on the bottom).
Elyas learned to clap!
Two days before Christmas Elyas took his first steps! 3 little steps in a row, before diving into my arms. He *could* do it all the time if he wanted to, but he is a cautious little fellow. He really only takes his steps alone if he doesn't know he's doing it on his own. Well, I take that back; last night, at Great Grandma's house he started to walk on his own between two people. My little guy is growing up! And he didn't want to hit 10 months without walking and be outdone by his big sis (who walked at 9.5 months). Though as I said, he's more cautious than she was. Once she took her first steps her goal in life was to master walking. He is more cautious and happy to hold on to your shirt sleeve or a finger to walk around. Not really holding him up, but giving him confidence that he won't fall and bonk his head (again... man that kid is always bonking his head! Yesterday he pulled my camera off a table down on to his head. geesh!).
And this month brought some words! (well, besides "mama" and "leila", though I don't think meaning came until this month). You can tell what time of year it is by the words he's learned:
Mama (was for me or for more food)
Mmmm (yummy)
Leila "yay-yuh" (big sis)
tree "teeeee" (Christmas tree)
tug tug tug (we say that when we play tug of war)
boo! (peekaboo)
Nutcracker! "gu-cra-cruh"
and just yesterday Baba (we call Ali "baba")
and he said Grandma once! "guh-ma"
My little guy!

little bugger got a packet while I was unpacking the other groceries. I heard rrrrriiiippp! and turned around to see the little boy with red powder all over him. I did wipe him up before taking a photo. He smelled like black cherry koolaid ALL DAY. Luckily it was unsweetened, but darn it if it wasn't the only black cherry packet at the store. Incidently i didn't buy it to make drinks... I was going to use it to dye some playsilks I bought. Waaahh! No pretty maroon I guess.
